“I am currently in my fourth year of the International Business Program at the Hague University of Applied Sciences in the Netherlands. Being born and raised on St. Maarten, I always knew that I would come back home to conduct my internship and begin my professional career. I knew that I wanted to work at TelEm Group because of the company’s superior telecommunication services and their internationality. I worked in the Human Resources and Development Department for five months and loved every single moment! Since joining the company, I was incorporated into every possible initiative and even lead some which honestly made me feel at home and welcomed in the department. I was also always welcomed by the other departments which only made me feel more valued at the company. Therefore, I would associate TelEm Group with family, fun experiences and opportunities. I was able to develop both professionally and personally through this experience as it not only developed my communication skills but also thought me how to handle situations from different aspects. While I was able to learn during my time at TelEm Group, I think that my favorite memory would have to be my department’s team building activity because they all came together and surprised me for my birthday which is something that I never expected! I was really in awe because it truly showed how much they cared for me. Therefore, if you are a student that is looking for an extremely fun yet challenging internship experience, join TelEm Group! But remember, life if what you make so, so always begin the day with an open mind”

“I am currently studying International Communication and Media at the Hogeschool van Utrecht in the Netherlands. I worked in the Marketing Department for five months, however got an extension for four extra months, so nine months in total. Once I received the go from my school to intern on St. Maarten, TelEm was on the top of my list because it was said by previous interns that you get to learn and broaden your knowledge by working in TelEm. So that definitely peaked my interest. I decided to send in my application for the Marketing Department because during my study in The Netherlands I specialized in Marketing and wanted to gain experience in the work field. The best part was meeting and working with some incredible people. They all have different, yet great personalities. This allowed me to gain so much experience both from my department and others. I do feel that way because not only did I assist the Marketing Department, but I also assisted the Human Resources and Development Department for different projects they were doing. When coming to work, I feel pleased to know that my assistance aided in benefiting the company. Three words to describe this company would be that it’s a Fun company, you can gain a lot of Knowledge and there is definitely room to Grow within this company. Skills that I have developed and gained from my internship are better negotiation skills and creativity skills. I managed to put my organizational and communication skills to work as well. I would most definitely recommend this internship because it’s a great learning experience. I would advise him/ her to keep an open mind to individuals working habits because everyone works differently. Also, to add value to the department and be a team player. Don’t be afraid to give your ideas and input as well, they may come in handy for the organization.”

“I am a Finance & Control major at the Hague University of Applied Science in the Netherlands. I conducted my internship in the Accounts Receivable, Budget & Reporting Department. This internship experience is one I would not exchange for anything; I developed so many great bonds and learned so much. When I had any questions, my colleagues never hesitated to offer their help which says a lot about the learning environment. Moreover, in my short time interning at TelEm I experienced a very positive work environment this was achieved by:

I acquired and developed a lot of relevant financial competences during my time at TelEm but, what really stood out to me was the interpersonal skills I developed skills like: teamwork, responsibility and patience to name a few. This internship definitely met and superseded my expectations. The projects that I worked on for the past 4 months gave me the chance to reach out to many diverse people within the company and challenged me in ways that I have not been challenged before within a classroom setting.”
